TRIO Philadelphia PROJECTS

Over the years since our 1997 founding, the TRIO Philadelphia chapter has been active and creative in supporting many projects and events, both local to the NJ/DE/PA region, as well as on the national level.  Some of our most recent projects  described in detail and photos are linked in this PROJECTS drop-down list that includes:

  • POST-TRANSPLANT CANCER RISK EDUCATION PROJECT:
Supporting the creation of a patient education web site raising awareness of the higher risk post-transplant for various types of cancer both financially and with chapter member leadership for that multi-year life-saving project

  • SCHOLARSHIP PROJECT:
Raising $1,000 in annual support for the TRIO Scholarship program with several of our chapter members on that national committee

  • VIDEO PRESENTATION LIBRARY PROJECT:
For years the Philadelphia chapter has been recording our chapter meeting guest speakers, as many as twelve per year for almost a decade now.  Those videos are posted on YouTube in a TRIO Transplant Presentation Library that now has over 110 hour-long+ programs available to the world community, adding another ten or more each year to this national resource, yet another project begun here in this Philadelphia chapter that has grown into a national program.

  • CHILDREN'S BOOK PROJECT:
TRIO Philadelphia created a "Mommy Can Play Again" book for children that explains organ transplants in simple language with child-drawn graphics around a local lung recipient's life story.  This book has never been sold!  Rather it is TRIO Philadelphia's free gift to the families undergoing organ transplants that need help explaining that process to their own children.  As we fund a fourth printing, the book is available on-line for download/printing or for colorful viewing on the computer screen.

  • A NURSE THANK YOU PROJECT:
A special gift shared at the ITNS conference in St. Louis where TRIO transplant patients touched the hearts of over 500 transplant nurses at their special luncheon with a gift inspired and executed by a TRIO Philadelphia member

  • OTHER UNIQUE PROJECTS:
See how a transplant book review library and a library of transplant movie details moved to the national scene for worldwide use thanks to TRIO Philadelphia
